چکیده

Utilization of metalworking fluids in the technological process of metalworking brings its advantages and disadvantages, mainly associated with the contamination of the working air through cutting fluid mist. The primary aim of this article is to approximate the mechanism of aerosols generation which contaminates the working air and to draw the attention to the problem of quantification of generated aerosols that are to be kept to exposure limits. The focus has been placed on the mechanisms of cutting fluid mist formation via atomization on a stationary or a rotating workpiece and on the other hand, via vaporization. The next objective is to characterize health risks resulting from the utilization of metalworking fluids in the production process.

Potential pathogenic bacteria inmetalworking£uids andaerosols fromamachining facility

The metalworking and machining industry utilizes recirculating metalworking fluids for integral aspects of the fabrication process. Despite the use of biocides, these fluids sustain substantial biological growth. Subsequently, the high-shear forces incurred during metalworking processing aerosolize bacterial cells and may cause dermatologic and respiratory effects in exposed workers. We quantif...

Reassessing The Health Risks Associated With Employee Exposure To Metalworking Fluid Microbes

Metalworking fluids provide an excellent environment for the growth and proliferation of a variety of bacteria and fungi. Historically, the incidence of infectious disease outbreaks at metalworking facilities has been rare. Consequently the primary focus of microbial contamination control efforts has been to prevent fluid biodeterioration. Research conducted over the past decade increasingly su...

The Occupational Exposure Limit for Fluid Aerosol Generated in Metalworking Operations: Limitations and Recommendations

The aim of this review was to assess current knowledge related to the occupational exposure limit (OEL) for fluid aerosols including either mineral or chemical oil that are generated in metalworking operations, and to discuss whether their OEL can be appropriately used to prevent several health risks that may vary among metalworking fluid (MWF) types. The OEL (time-weighted average; 5 mg/m(3), ...
